Get to Know Physiotherapist Rachel Wilson MScPT

Flow Physio + Wellness is growing!!! I have been manifesting finding a physio phriend to work with that aligns with my core values and beliefs about our profession. Someone who is as excited as I am about providing quality care and empowering our community to find lifelong fun and wellness - enter Rachel!

This Q & A between her and I was part of our initial conversation and I think this highlights why she might be the perfect physio for you!

Danielle: Why did you want to become a physiotherapist? Tell us about yourself and your journey to this point.

Rachel: Unfortunately, I discovered physiotherapy the hard way. As a young adult a car accident put much of my life on hold. I went from training daily to just trying to get out of bed. Sitting on the sideline was heartbreaking for me but the experience makes it that much more rewarding to help someone else get back to the activities they love.

Danielle: What was your biggest challenge starting up as a physiotherapist?

Rachel: My biggest challenge has been finding my little oasis where I have the freedom to spend the time I need with my patients. I work one-on-one with my patients helping them heal through a combination of hands on technique and guided exercise. I’m so excited to have found Flow Physio + Wellness because David and Danielle share these values.

Danielle: What was your biggest success as a physiotherapist?

Rachel: My patients are my biggest success stories. I’ve seen some very complex injuries over the years and love the challenge. My influence on the health of my community is something I take a lot of satisfaction from.

Danielle: What excites you most about physiotherapy?

Rachel: Physiotherapy allows me to be there with a client throughout their recovery and truly experience a person’s journey with them. I love being able to share in those amazing moments when they reach their goals. Happy tears are my favourite part of the job.

Danielle: What is your special interest(s) or passions within physiotherapy?

Rachel: My passion is returning individuals to an active lifestyle. Whatever sport or activity motivates you to move. I’m trained to assess movement from full body motion to the mobility of an individual joint. This helps me assess both the source of pain and develop individual plans to prevent injury in the future.

Danielle: Who is your dream patient to work with?

Rachel: The weekend warrior! Everyone needs an outlet outside of work and the typical daily stressors. I enjoy helping people continue to be active and find balance in their life.

Danielle: What message do you want patients to know before they come see you for treatment?

Rachel: My space is a safe space. Healthcare settings can be intimidating. I like to put my patients at ease and make them feel heard. Share as much or as little as you’re comfortable sharing.

Danielle: What is a book or podcast would you recommend and why?

Rachel: The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck. A favourite quote from it is“It's not about being indifferent, but being comfortable with being different” -Mark Manson.  Self-help with a good dash of humour is right up my alley.

Danielle: Are there any special courses you’ve taken within the physiotherapy field or beyond?

Rachel: These are the courses I use the most:
