2020 Reflection

I’ve been doing some ‘end of year’ clean up on my computer and phone and wanted to share a version of a “best of 2020 for Flow Physio + Wellness”- a wrap up of the best things to come out of 2020, because focusing on the lows has just become too easy! 

BEST OF: MEDIA

Flow Physio + Wellness has been going strong for well over a year now! I have committed to bringing a stronger social media presence and connecting with other local businesses in our community.

The goal? To collaborate with like-minded individuals, relay critical thinking and relatable information from professionals, and share my passion with you all!

 Here are some of my favourite moments:

  3. Writing blog posts and designing our website (all done by yours truly, no less!)

BEST OF: SERVICES

This year we’ve increased our hours and have successfully built a multidisciplinary team including myself, Dr. David Blair, Kayla Daligadu and Ryan Ferry.

2021 will bring some new changes in services, I will begin offering:

  • Online strength programming

  • Workshops for prenatal and postpartum women in adjunct with my pelvic floor physiotherapy services

  • Virtual courses for other health and fitness professionals that want to better serve the prenatal and postpartum community

BEST OF: YEAR SNAPSHOTS

We visited Hawaii with our great friends in February and took our first helicopter ride! I’m so grateful we got to squeeze in a vacation before our world took such a large shift.

We visited the cottage and went ice fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, boiled our own maple syrup and ate lots of treats.

We did several DIYs including a backyard overhaul, our first vegetable garden, a bathroom re-do, a basement refinish, and a nursery (featuring a board + batten wall, so much math!)

I completed several continuing education courses including Brianna Battles’ Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Coaching course, Institute of Clinical Excellence Management of the Fitness Athlete and Advanced Management of the Fitness Athlete.

I participated in not one but TWO mastermind development groups - one hosted by Press Play Physio with Emma Jack where I explored professional boundaries as an entrepreneur and goal setting for 2021 and beyond. Team of Titans with Alena Luciani helped me to foster my digital business presence, with an emphasis in my online programming and virtual physiotherapy.

I connected with other physiotherapists and strength coaches across North America through social media and felt so supported, this re-ignited my passion for physiotherapy and coaching.

David made copious amounts of sourdough bread (this got me through my first trimester).

Blue thrived with having us at home and going on double the amount of walks and park plays. One of my favourite moments of the year were slow morning coffees as a family.

I grew a tiny human inside me while maintaining a healthy work: life balance and maintaining a level of fitness that has carried me through this pregnancy.

I had a socially distanced baby shower with my family + friends on a balmy November Sunday (so lucky!)

We found out that our Registered Massage Therapist and Fascial Stretch Therapist Kayla is also pregnant! It was so great to navigate this transition alongside her.

I also had a couple personal words that have resonated with me for 2020 (nope, they’re not ‘social distancing’ or ‘unprecedented times’)...

BOUNDARIES

Being forced to step away from clinical practice made me realize how critical it is to have better boundaries around protecting energy, family, business and health. Practicing holding boundaries has allowed me to focus my energy and long term goals.

RESILIENCY

Giving up control and taking moments in stride has been a theme of 2020. I have focused on building resiliency - against stress and against negative energy from the news and those around me. This has allowed me to enjoy the small moments this year has gifted me.

TRANSITION

The end of 2020 is also the end of my clinical work as I transition to a few months of time off and motherhood. It is so hard to ‘let go of the reigns’ and step back after working so hard to build a business, but I am using the resiliency and boundary building skills that I have learned in 2020 to establish a new balance for this coming year.
